MCOE Youth Enterprise Garden

The MCOE Youth Enterprise Gardens at the Alternative Education Programs of Mendocino County Office of Education (MCOE) serve ‘at risk' youth attending the alternative high and middle schools. The enterprise garden gives students the opportunity to learn marketing and small business skills in developing a business plan and executing it through the production and sales of the garden. This garden will serve as a model for expansion to Juvenile Hall and other youth projects.

Gardener of the Month -Sacramento Hernandez

Congratulations to Sacramento Hernandez, our February 2010 Gardener of the Month! Sacramento, a hard-working lad of sixteen years who likes to play disc golf and thinks it is really cool that he now knows how to plant a tree, is part of the Youth Enterprise Gardens at the Mendocino County Office of Education. This radical garden program has built a cob greenhouse, an earth oven, and is now working on a rain water catchment system. Look below to watch our interview with Sacramento and learn what he likes best about working in the garden.
